José Coronado: A Master of the Craft

José María Coronado García was born on August 14, 1957, in Madrid, Spain. His parents, an engineer and an accountant, provided him with a comfortable upbringing alongside his two sisters. Despite his initial aspirations in medicine and law, Coronado's path would ultimately lead him to the world of entertainment.

Model and Entrepreneur

A chance encounter with a modeling agency turned the tide for Coronado. He embarked on a successful career in commercials and even established his own modeling agency. However, his true calling lay elsewhere.

Film Career

In 1987, Coronado made his cinematic debut in "Waka-Waka." His breakout role came in the crime series "Central Brigade," earning him a TP de Oro nomination for Best Actor. Throughout the 1990s, he became a regular presence on the big and small screens, often starring in multiple films per year.

While quantity took precedence over quality for a time, Coronado redeemed himself with his portrayal of journalist Luis Sanz in the comedy-drama "Journalists." The role garnered him both a TP de Oro nomination and a Fotogramas de Plata award for Best Actor on Television.

Collaboration with Enrique Urbizu

Coronado's collaboration with director Enrique Urbizu proved pivotal. Urbizu cast him in significant roles in "Cell 211" and "No Man's Life." The former earned Coronado a Goya Awards nomination, while the latter showcased his depth as a corrupt detective blackmailing a young boxer.

Awards and Acclaim

In 2011, Coronado won his first Goya Award for Best Actor for his performance in the crime drama "No Rest for the Wicked." The film, based on the Madrid terrorist attacks of 2004, reunited him with Urbizu.

Coronado's subsequent accolades include a second Goya Award nomination for "Your Son" and an Iris Award for Best Actor for the TV series "El Príncipe."

Personal Life

Coronado is the father of two children from previous relationships. He dated Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, daughter of the Duchess of Alba, in 2015. In 2017, he suffered a heart attack but made a full recovery.

Recent Projects

Coronado continues to thrive in his craft. He appeared in the Spanish-French heist film "The Vault" in 2021 and the comedy "Perfect Family" in 2022. He also starred in the third season of the crime drama "Entrevías" and the Netflix thriller "Lost in the Snow."
