Charlene Yi: A Multifaceted Artist
Early Life and EducationCharlene Yi was born in Los Angeles, California, to a Filipina-Spanish mother and a Korean-Irish-German-French-Native American father. She attended the University of California, Riverside, but pursued a life in the arts.
Early Career
Yi began her career in Fontana, California, performing in live shows. She later moved to Los Angeles, where she performed at Steve Allen Theater and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She participated in the New York Comedy Festival in 2005 and 2006, and the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado in 2007.
Film and Television
Yi's debut film role was in Judd Apatow's "Knocked Up." In 2009, she starred in the "hybrid documentary" film "Paper Heart," which she executive-produced, wrote, and co-starred in with Michael Cera. She gained wider recognition for her role as Dr. Chi Park, a Korean-Filipino immigrant with anger issues, in the eighth season of "House" (2011-2012).
Voiceover Work
Yi is known for her voiceover work in animated films and television series. Notable roles include Ruby in "Steven Universe" and "Steven Universe: The Movie," and Chloe in "We Bare Bears" and "We Bare Bears: The Movie." In 2018, she voiced the lead character in Netflix's animated film "Next Gen."
Personal Life
In 2018, Yi accused Marilyn Manson of racism and harassment on the set of "House." She also accused James Franco of sexual misconduct while working on the film "The Disaster Artist," alleging that she was coerced to stay involved after attempting to withdraw. Additionally, she accused Seth Rogen of being aware of Franco's misconduct and enabling it.
