Early Life and EducationCheng Chung-ying, an esteemed Chinese philosopher and historian of philosophy, was born in 1936. In 1956, he graduated from National Taiwan University with a specialization in literature and philosophy. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he pursued graduate studies in philosophy and logic in the United States. In 1964, he earned his doctorate from Harvard University.
Academic Career
Cheng's academic career began in 1963 when he joined the Department of Philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. By 1972, he had ascended to the position of Professor. Throughout his tenure, Cheng was instrumental in the founding and editing of the "Journal of Chinese Philosophy" (Honolulu), an influential publication that has been disseminating scholarly research on Chinese philosophy since its inception in 1973.
Moreover, Cheng established the International Society for Chinese Philosophy, a global organization dedicated to promoting the study of Chinese philosophical thought.
