Biography of Cheri Oteri

Cheri Oteri, born on September 19, 1962, is an American actress and comedian, best known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" from 1995 to 2000. She also portrayed the character of Ellen Klench, a quirky librarian with a penchant for mixing up unrelated objects, in the television series "Sit Down, Shut Up" created by Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of the cult comedy series "Arrested Development". The premiere of the series took place on April 19, 2009, on the Fox channel.

Early Life and Career

Cheri Oteri was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. She grew up with three siblings and attended Archbishop Prendergast High School in Upper Darby. At the age of twenty-five, Cheri moved to Los Angeles, where she worked for four years at A&M Records before eventually joining the renowned comedy group "The Groundlings". It was during her time with "The Groundlings" that she caught the attention of agents from "Saturday Night Live". In 1995, she became part of the show's new cast, which was a complete overhaul after a disastrous season in 1994. Oteri is often referred to as one of the "Mighty Trio of SNL" alongside Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer. It is believed that she, along with Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, and others, revitalized "SNL". Cheri left the show in 2000.

Later Career

Since leaving "Saturday Night Live", Cheri Oteri has appeared in several Hollywood films, including "Scary Movie", "Inspector Gadget", "Liar, Liar", "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd", "Shrek the Third", and "Southland Tales".

In 2009, Cheri Oteri joined the main cast of the new comedy series "Sit Down, Shut Up" on the Fox channel, where she provided the voice for the character Ellen Klench, an eccentric librarian known for mixing up unrelated items. The series premiered on April 19, 2009.

Personal Life

On April 26, 2008, Cheri Oteri's sixty-nine-year-old father, Gaetano Thomas Oteri, was found dead in his Nashville home. His neighbor, country songwriter Richard Fagan, was accused of his murder. It was alleged that during a drunken fight, Fagan punctured Oteri's wrist with a pocket knife, causing him to bleed to death. Fagan attempted to flee the crime scene but was apprehended by the police for drunk driving. He was released on a $20,000 bond. However, in early 2009, it was proven that Fagan was innocent and that Oteri's cause of death was a heart attack.
