Early Life and Education

Choi Won-young was born on January 10, 1976, in Seoul, South Korea. Little is known about his early life. However, he went on to earn two degrees in his youth: a Master's in Advertising and Public Relations from Hongik University and a degree in Scenography from Sangmyung University.

Film and Television Career

Debut and Early Roles:

Won-young made his acting debut in the 2002 film "Sex Is Zero," a South Korean adaptation of the American "American Pie." He later appeared in supporting roles in comedies such as "Mr. Eccentric" (2006).

Breakthrough Roles and Notable Projects:

In 2012, Won-young gained recognition for his performance as the brother of a serial killer victim in the crime thriller "Confession of Murder." He went on to star in critically acclaimed Korean dramas such as "The Heirs" (2013), "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" (2016-2017), and "Mad Dog" (2017).

In "The Heirs," Won-young portrayed the conflicted character of Kim Tan's uncle. In "Hwarang," he played An Ji-gong, a noble warrior, alongside Song Dong-il as the charismatic mentor. "Mad Dog" featured him as a detective uncovering fraud within an insurance company.

Recent Projects:

Won-young continues to impress audiences with his versatility. In 2021, he starred in the crime comedy "Granny!" as Detective Kang, investigating a hit-and-run case with an Alzheimer's patient and a dog as the only witnesses. In 2022, he played the lead role in the melodrama thriller "My Dangerous Wife," exploring the strained relationship between a chef and his wife.

Personal Life

Choi Won-young is married to actress Shim Yi-young, whom he met on the set of the drama "One Hundred Year Legacy" in 2013. They married in 2014 and welcomed two daughters, both born in June with a three-year gap.
