Chris Rast: American Olympian and Sailing Legend

Early Life and Sailing Career

Chris Rast was born on May 21, 1972, in San Diego, California. His passion for sailing began at age 11, and he continued to pursue it throughout high school and university. Rast represented both American and Swiss teams due to his Swiss-American heritage, competing in various competitions.

Olympic Representation

Rast made his Olympic debut at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta as part of the Swiss team. He then represented the United States in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the Swiss team again in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Transition to Crew Member

Initially a skilled skipper, Rast transitioned to the role of crew member and excelled in it. He believes that the 2008 Olympics will be a true test of his abilities. Despite his long tenure as a coach, Rast remains highly motivated to succeed in Beijing.

Notable Accomplishments

Rast has participated in numerous prestigious sailing events, including the 12th Olympic Regatta, the 14th 49er World Championships, and the 13th ISAF Sailing World Championships. The Olympics hold special significance for him, as he has seen his focus and determination increase with each subsequent Games.

Current Status

Rast currently trains full-time as a member of the US Sailing Team Alphagraphics. He is affiliated with several sailing clubs, including the Southwestern Yacht Club, the Thunersee Yacht Club, and the Regatta Club Oberhofen.
