Chris Vrenna: A Multifaceted Musician and Producer
Chris Vrenna is an accomplished American musician known for his work as a drummer, remixer, songwriter, music programmer, and electronic instrument programmer.
Early Life and Musical Roots
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Vrenna moved to Chicago in the mid-1980s, immersing himself in the local industrial scene. He briefly played with Die Warzau and Stabbing Westward before reconnecting with Trent Reznor, a former bandmate from their Cleveland high school group Exotic Birds.
Nine Inch Nails and Beyond
From 1989 to 1991, Vrenna performed live with Reznor's band Nine Inch Nails. He also served as the live drummer for KMFDM during their "Money" tour in 1992. In 2004, Vrenna filled in temporarily for Marilyn Manson's drummer, Ginger Fish, during their "Lest We Forget" tour. He subsequently joined the band as a keyboardist, replacing Madonna Wayne Gacy. Vrenna co-produced Marilyn Manson's album "The High End of Low" before departing from the band in November 2011.
Tweaker and Solo Projects
Under the moniker Tweaker, Vrenna has released two albums: "The Attraction to All Things Uncertain" (2001) and "2 a.m. Wakeup Call" (2004). He has performed live with Skinny Puppy under the same alias.
Production and Collaborations
Vrenna has worked as a producer, remixer, or engineer for numerous artists, including Lords of Acid, God Lives Underwater, Megadeth, Metallica, Rammstein, U2, Weezer, David Bowie, andMarilyn Manson. He has also produced for underground girl bands such as TCR, Jack Off Jill, and Rasputina.
Game Soundtracks and Recognition
Vrenna has composed and produced soundtracks for video games such as "Doom 3," "Quake 4," and "American McGee's Alice." He also assisted in creating the theme song for the animated series "Xiaolin Showdown." In 1995, he won a Grammy Award for Best Heavy Metal Performance with Nine Inch Nails for "Happiness in Slavery."
Personal Life
Vrenna was married to journalist Carrie Borzillo from 2000 to 2009. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
