Ghanaian Footballer Christian Atsu

Early Life and Career

Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian professional footballer, was born in Ada Foah, Ghana. At the age of 17, he joined FC Porto's youth academy.

Debut with FC Porto

On May 14, 2011, under manager André Villas-Boas, Atsu was included in the matchday squad against Marítimo but remained an unused substitute. To gain match experience, he was loaned to Rio Ave in 2011.

Season at Rio Ave

Atsu made his debut for Rio Ave in August 2011 and scored his first goal in December against Benfica. He scored six goals in 27 appearances during the 2011/12 season.

Return to FC Porto and Loan to Vitesse

After his loan expired, Atsu returned to Porto and made his league debut for the club in August 2012. In the summer of 2013, he joined Chelsea and was immediately loaned out to Dutch club Vitesse.

Loans to Everton and Bournemouth

Following his time at Vitesse, Atsu was loaned to Everton in 2014 and then to Bournemouth in 2015. He debuted for Bournemouth in the EFL Cup and scored in his first match for the club.

Loan to Málaga and Newcastle United

In January 2016, Atsu joined Málaga on loan and made his La Liga debut in February. He also scored his first goal for Málaga in that match. Summer 2016 saw him loaned to Newcastle United, where he helped the team gain promotion to the Premier League.

Permanent Transfer to Newcastle United

In May 2017, Newcastle purchased Atsu from Chelsea for a fee of 7.5 million euros. He signed a four-year contract with the club.

International Career

Ghana Debut and 2014 World Cup

Atsu debuted for the Ghana national team in 2012 and scored his first international goal in the same match. He was part of the Ghana squad that participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Consecutive African Cup of Nations Appearances

Atsu represented Ghana at the 2013, 2015, and 2017 African Cup of Nations tournaments. He helped the team win silver medals in 2015, scoring a brace against Guinea.
