Christian Ehrhoff: A German Hockey Star

Christian Ehrhoff is a German professional hockey defenseman currently playing for Kölner Haie in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).

Early Career in Germany

Ehrhoff began his hockey career in Germany, playing for Duisburg in the Oberliga and Krefeld Pinguine in the DEL. With Krefeld, he captured the German championship in 2003.

NHL Journey

Selected 106th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Ehrhoff moved to North America for the 2003-04 season. He spent a season and a half with the Sharks' AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Barons, before joining the parent club. After six seasons as a Sharks defenseman, he was traded to Vancouver in August 2009.

During his two seasons with the Canucks, Ehrhoff earned the Babe Pratt Trophy twice as the team's top defenseman and helped lead Vancouver to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2011, where they lost to the Boston Bruins. From 2011-12, he played for the Buffalo Sabres.

International Play

Ehrhoff has represented Germany internationally at numerous tournaments, including three Winter Olympics, four World Championships, and the World Cup of Hockey.

Return to Germany

After his NHL career, Ehrhoff returned to his homeland and signed with Kölner Haie on July 1, 2014. He has remained with the team since, playing a key role in their success.
