Biography of Christian Horner
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, was born on November 16, 1973, in Leamington, United Kingdom. He began his racing career in 1994 in the British Formula 3, where he competed for three seasons. In 1996, he also participated in the British Formula 2.
Arden and Formula 3000
In 1997, Horner became the sole driver of his own team, Arden, in the International Formula 3000 Championship. However, he only managed to earn one point throughout the season. In 1998, the team welcomed Belgian driver Kurt Mollekens, who finished 6th in the championship with 19 points, while Horner failed to score any points. After the season, Horner decided to retire from racing and focused on team management.
In 1999, Arden Racing received sponsorship from the Russian company Lukoil and became Lukoil Arden Racing. However, neither Russian driver Viktor Maslov nor Belgian driver Mark Goossens managed to score any championship points. In 2000 and 2001, Horner's team, now called Arden Team Russia, finished 8th and 9th in the team standings respectively, with British driver Darren Manning as Maslov's teammate.
Success in Formula 3000 and GP2
In addition to the International Formula 3000 Championship, Arden Team Russia also competed in the Italian Formula 3000 from 1999 to 2000. The next three seasons were particularly successful for Horner's team. From 2002 to 2004, Arden finished first in the team standings, and in 2003 and 2004, their drivers Bjorn Wirdheim and Vitantonio Liuzzi became Formula 3000 champions.
After the reorganization of Formula 3000 into GP2 in 2005, Arden's best result was a second-place finish in the team standings in 2005, with Heikki Kovalainen finishing second in the individual standings. Horner's success in managing his own Formula 3000 team caught the attention of Dietrich Mateschitz. At the end of 2004, Mateschitz bought the Jaguar Formula 1 team to create a new team called Red Bull Racing, with Horner being appointed as the team principal.
Red Bull Racing
In their debut season in Formula 1 in 2005, Red Bull Racing finished 7th in the team standings. The team achieved its first podium finish in the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix, with David Coulthard securing a third-place finish. In the 2009 Chinese Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel brought Red Bull Racing their first victory.
In 2010, Red Bull Racing achieved the "double victory," winning the Constructors' Championship and Sebastian Vettel becoming the World Champion. The team's dominance was evident in the penultimate race of the season.
