Christian Stuani: Uruguayan Striker with a Journeyed Career
Early Life and Professional DebutChristian Stuani, born in Tala, Uruguay, began his professional career at Danubio in 2004. After a brief loan spell at Bella Vista in 2005, he returned to Danubio and played a pivotal role in their 2006/07 championship victory.
Italian Sojourn with Reggina
In 2008, Stuani made the move to Italian club Reggina. His time in Italy was marked by a relatively low goal output, scoring only once in 17 appearances. Seeking more playing time, he joined Spanish Segunda Division side Albacete on loan in 2009.
Loan Spells in Spain
Stuani's loan spell at Albacete proved to be a successful one, as he netted 23 goals in 40 matches. This prompted Levante to acquire his services on loan for the 2010/11 La Liga season, where he scored 8 goals in 30 appearances. He returned to La Liga once more on loan with Racing Santander in 2011/12, scoring 9 goals in 32 matches.
Permanent Move to Espanyol
After his contract with Reggina expired in 2012, Stuani signed a four-year deal with Espanyol. He made his debut against Levante and scored his first goal in a win against Rayo Vallecano.
Experience in England with Middlesbrough
In 2015, Stuani joined English Championship club Middlesbrough on a two-year contract. He played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League, scoring the decisive goal in the final game of the 2015/16 season. He made an immediate impact in the top flight, scoring a brace against Sunderland in his Premier League debut.
Return to Spain with Girona
After two seasons in England, Stuani returned to Spain to join newly promoted La Liga side Girona in 2017, signing a three-year contract.
International Career
Stuani made his international debut for Uruguay in 2012 against Poland. He has represented the Celeste on multiple occasions, including in friendlies and as part of their squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
