Biography of Christina Gold
Christina Gold is currently the President and CEO of Western Union Financial Services, based in Greenwood Village. However, her career began over thirty years ago in a completely different field, at Avon.
Early Career at Avon
Christina started working at Avon in 1969, after graduating from Carleton College in Ottawa with a bachelor's degree. Initially, she worked in one of the company's branch offices. However, by 1997, Gold had achieved tremendous success and was being predicted to become the President of Avon. During this time, the North American company began distributing its own products across the continent, from Montreal to New York. Christina was particularly enthralled by the spirit of competition, the drive for success, and the fast pace and effectiveness of the business.
Recognition and Future Predictions
Christina's achievements were remarkable, and she was honored by prestigious glossy magazines. Some even predicted that she would become the President of Avon, a position that had never been held by a woman in the organization's hundred-year history. However, luck was not on Christina's side, as someone else was appointed President in 1999.
Transition to Western Union
Undeterred, Christina moved on and began working at Excel Communications, a Dallas-based telecommunications company. Soon after, the firm was acquired by Western Union, which presented Christina with a completely different organization. Western Union not only had a different concept but also offered greater financial opportunities and ambitions. Christina considered herself fortunate to be part of such a large business with tremendous potential.
Leading Western Union
One of Christina's first initiatives at Western Union was a global campaign worth $300 million, with the slogan "Bringing People Together with Opportunities." During this campaign, Christina helped Western Union, which had 87 branches across various territories, to create a new, unifying marketing structure. Previously, Western Union had resolved numerous conflicts and dire situations, such as a banking strike in Brazil, a hurricane in the Caribbean Sea, a tsunami in Asia, and collaborations with the Red Cross. Today, the company helps people receive money, resolves various issues, and facilitates transactions and contracts for individuals worldwide.
