Biography of Kieran Kelso

Kieran Craig Kelso was born in 2005 in Northwich, Cheshire, in the United Kingdom. At birth, he was a healthy baby weighing around 2.8 kg. However, tragedy struck when Kieran was just 13 months old and had started walking. He contracted bacterial meningitis, which was further complicated by sepsis, a blood infection. To save his life, doctors had to amputate both of his legs below the knees and some of the first phalanges of his fingers.

Despite the devastating loss, Kieran, due to his young age, did not suffer as much as his parents did. He quickly adapted to using prosthetic legs and his shortened fingers did not hinder his development. However, swimming became a challenge for Kieran as he couldn't stay afloat without his amputated legs. He decided that he did not like the water. That all changed when special fins were designed for him. With the attachment of these fins, Kieran began swimming. The joy of his parents and Kieran himself knew no bounds. In a short time, Kieran became so comfortable in the pool that it seemed as if he had been swimming since birth. He dives willingly, confidently swims under and over the water, and is ready to spend all his time in the water.

Kieran also has a dream - he wants to go to the United States with his parents and meet Winter the Dolphin, who, like Kieran, lost its 'legs' - its tail fin. Humans were able to help Winter by creating a prosthetic fin that completely replaced the lost one. Kieran feels a connection with Winter, as they both have experienced similar physical challenges, and believes they must meet, become friends, and support each other.

Although Kieran grows up as a happy child and hardly feels different from other children, his parents constantly have to find ways to provide him with new prosthetics as he continues to grow. To support Kieran, the Cieran's Trust Fund was created. However, at his young age, Kieran does not have to worry about money and other adult responsibilities. His goal today is to walk, run, jump, swim, and not feel 'different'.
