Early Life and Marriage

Helen and Kenneth Felumlee (Helen and Kenneth Felumlee) had known each other since their teenage years. They got married on February 20, 1944, during the war, as soon as Kenneth legally could marry. Both of them had eagerly awaited this day for several years. Kenneth worked on the railroad at that time and later became a mail carrier, while Helen was a homemaker. The young couple lived in perfect harmony, and their neighbors loved and respected them, always seeing Helen and Kenneth together. They had eight children and their family was large and close-knit. Despite the challenges Kenneth faced, he willingly took on extra jobs and never complained about his life. They were active members of the Methodist church, and Kenneth found time for community work.

A Life of Love and Service

Their children recall that sometimes their father would come home in the evening, quickly have a snack, and take a short nap for a couple of hours before going to his second job. Despite his busy schedule, he was always attentive to his neighbors and ready to help out whenever a car broke down or in any other situation. Helen spent her days taking care of the children, which was not an easy task with eight kids, and she also took care of all the household chores. However, she never complained and, as the children grew older, she helped out in the community by cleaning and occasionally babysitting for other families. Some of their neighbors are still grateful to her – Helen would come over whenever a mother was not at home and their baby needed a diaper change, as the father could not do it.

Later Years

As the years passed, Kenneth and Helen grew older and their children grew up. Life became less hectic and simpler financially. The couple had more time for each other, which they gladly took advantage of by traveling around the country. They proudly claimed to have visited almost every state in the USA. Helen and Kenneth lived together until their old age, and Kenneth's health began to deteriorate. He had one leg amputated, and Helen cared for him as only someone who loves deeply can. Neighbors remember seeing them walking hand in hand and rarely alone. Throughout their lives, they always tried to hold hands.

A Love Eternal

Unfortunately, even the happiest families must face death, and in April 2014, 92-year-old Helen passed away. Just a day later, Kenneth followed her, with only a 15-hour difference in their deaths. They were buried together, and their children, despite the double sorrow of loss, accepted it with gratitude. Truly, this is the kind of ending that all lovers dream of – to die on the same day and not suffer the pain of losing their beloved. Helen and Kenneth Felumlee will be remembered by many – their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as their neighbors, who knew them as one of the happiest and most harmonious couples on earth.
