Childhood and Early Life

Cyril Gane was born on April 12, 1990, in La Roche-sur-Yon, France. His father, originally from Guadeloupe, played professional football in Europe after immigrating. Gane's interest in sports emerged in childhood, where he played soccer, practiced martial arts, and engaged in basketball.

Education and Early Career

Gane pursued classical studies at the Lycée Édouard Branly and obtained a Brevet de Technicien Supérieur degree in sales. He began his independent life in Paris, working at a furniture store but also attending Muay Thai classes in his spare time. His impressive physical conditioning led him to participate in French tournaments, aiming to become national champion.

Transition to Mixed Martial Arts

Recognizing his potential in combat sports, Gane sought the guidance of Fernando Lopez, founder of MMA Factory. Under Lopez's tutelage, he excelled in kickboxing, defeating formidable opponent Brice Guidon. Gane's success in Muay Thai, where he twice won the French AFMT heavyweight championship, propelled him towards mixed martial arts.

Debut and Rise in MMA

In 2017, Lopez encouraged Gane to transition to MMA. He quickly found a home in the TKO organization, where he made his debut against knockout artist Bobby Sullivan, securing the heavyweight title with a guillotine choke. Gane successfully defended the title twice before his impressive performances caught the attention of the UFC.

UFC Success and Title Contention

Gane's UFC debut in 2019 showcased his grappling skills, defeating undefeated Rafael Pessoa. His victory over Don'Tale Mayes earned him the "Performance of the Night" bonus and solidified his reputation as a rising heavyweight contender.

Gane faced Tanner Boser in 2020, adding another victory to his record. After a series of postponed fights, he faced veteran Junior dos Santos and emerged victorious with a TKO win. In 2021, he defeated Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov, setting the stage for a title shot.

Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion

In August 2021, Gane defeated Derrick Lewis to claim the interim UFC heavyweight championship at UFC 265, extending his undefeated streak to 10-0.

Personal Life

Gane is married with two daughters. His hobbies include mountaineering, collecting luxury cars, and traveling with his family.

Recent Career and Looking Forward

Gane's first UFC title fight against Francis Ngannou in 2022 resulted in a unanimous decision loss, his first career defeat. Despite this setback, Gane remains determined to reclaim the championship belt and continue his dominance in the sport.
