Biography of Claire Hamilton

Claire Hamilton is a Scottish curler and the lead player in her team, with the role of skip being taken by Eve Muirhead. Representing the sporting interests of Scotland, Hamilton and Muirhead competed in the World Championship in 2013. They also played for Team Great Britain in the 2014 Olympics, where they won bronze medals.

Born on January 31, 1989, in Lockerbie, Claire Hamilton attended Lockerbie Academy and the University of Strathclyde, where she studied pharmaceutical science. She was introduced to the world of curling by her family. Hamilton became a member of Anna Sloan's team and won a gold medal for Great Britain at the 2011 Winter Universiade. In this victorious game, Hamilton played as a substitute player.

In March 2011, Hamilton was responsible for throwing the fifth and sixth stones as the third player in Sloan's team at the World Championship. She was joined on the rink by Vicki Adams, Rhiann MacLeod, and Eve Muirhead. The team finished in ninth place. Sloan joined forces with Muirhead after that season, and Hamilton took on the role of throwing the first and second stones in each end, while Adams threw the third and fourth stones. With their roles well-distributed, the girls achieved instant success, becoming champions at the European Curling Championship in 2011, which took place in Moscow.

However, their technique faltered somewhat at the World Championship in 2012, where Hamilton and her colleagues finished in sixth place. Muirhead's team won gold medals at the World Curling Championship in Riga, Latvia, with Lauren Gray as the substitute player. In 2013, Hamilton was named in the "Team of the Year 2013" at the Scottish Curling Awards. She set herself the goal of making it to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and managed to achieve her desired outcome. In the end, Claire won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games.

Hamilton currently lives and trains in Glasgow. During the winter period, she travels with her team to Stirling and Perth. Hamilton enjoys listening to music during warm-up sessions. Her hobbies include running and cycling. Her biggest sporting hero is track cyclist Chris Hoy. Hamilton's coaches are Rhona Martin and Dave Hay. She competes for the Applegarth & Sibbaldbie curling club.
