Biography of Marc Kennedy
Marc Kennedy, born on February 5, 1982, in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, is a Canadian curler of Olympic level. He is known for being the second player on Kevin Martin's team, which is considered one of the strongest teams in modern curling. Kennedy has achieved numerous victories in provincial and national championships.
Early Career
Kennedy began his curling career by competing in junior tournaments, where he won three championships. In 1998, he played as the second player on Carter Rycroft's team at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. In 1999 and 2001, he competed with Jeff Erickson's team at the same championship.
In 2003, Kennedy was a reserve player for Brandon University's team, which won gold at the Winter Universiade. That same year, he joined John Morris' team in Alberta, where he quickly earned a place as the second player.
Team Martin
In 2006, Kennedy and Morris joined Kevin Martin's team, a two-time champion of the Canadian Brier tournament. It was with this team that Kennedy won his first provincial championship. In 2008, they achieved victory at the Brier tournament and the World Championships, setting a record for consecutive victories at the Brier tournament.
In 2010, Kennedy, Martin, Morris, and Ben Hebert represented Canada and won the Olympic gold medal in Vancouver. They defeated Norway in the final with a score of 6-3.
Later Career and Personal Life
In 2011, Kennedy won the Alberta Championship but had less luck at the Brier tournament, where they only achieved a bronze medal. However, around this time, Kennedy left the team to focus on taking care of his pregnant wife.
In 2013, Kennedy returned to Martin's team and won another provincial championship, earning the right to compete in the Brier tournament. However, they did not qualify for the playoffs.
Kennedy is married to Nicole MacDonald, and they have two daughters named Aubrey Claire and Brechan Vivian Rose. Apart from his curling career, Kennedy has a degree in marketing from the University of Alberta. He previously owned a franchise of M&M Meat Shops but sold it in 2012 to concentrate on curling. Currently, Kennedy serves as an Olympic ambassador for RBC.
Currently, Kennedy continues to hold the position of the second player on Kevin Martin's team, alongside Ben Hebert and David Nedohin.
