Biography of Clara Louise Kellogg

Clara Louise Kellogg was an American soprano singer. She began her singing training with private tutors in 1857 and made her debut in New York in 1861. In 1863, she performed the role of Marguerite in the American premiere of Gounod's "Faust." She sang in London from 1867 to 1868 and then primarily in the United States. From 1873 to 1876, she co-led her own troupe with Pauline Lucca. In 1879, she went to Europe again and sang in Vienna in 1880 and in St. Petersburg in 1881.

In 1887, Kellogg married her impresario, Karl Strakosch, who was the nephew of Maurice Strakosch. Shortly after her marriage, she retired from the stage. In 1913, she published a book called "Memoirs of an American Primadonna."

Kellogg's most notable roles included Gilda in "Rigoletto," Violetta in "La Traviata," Zerlina in "Don Giovanni," the title roles in Flotow's "Martha," Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor," Verdi's "Aida," and more.
