Biography of Claire Grogan

Claire Patricia Grogan was born on March 17, 1962, in Glasgow, Scotland. She gained recognition as the lead singer of the 1980s band 'Altered Images' and for her roles in the film 'Gregory's Girl' (1981) and the sitcom 'Red Dwarf'.

Scar and Acting Career

Grogan speaks about the scar on her face and its consequences, as well as her struggles with eating disorders and her decision to adopt a child. At the age of 17, while dancing at the Glasgow Technical College, she witnessed a fight and was hit by a broken bottle. Three months after the incident, she landed the role of Susan in the film 'Gregory's Girl'. Despite producer objections due to her facial scar, director Bill Forsyth decided to cast her and filmed her mostly in profile. Makeup artists covered the scar with wax from a funeral home when close-ups were necessary.

Acting Career and Solo Music

Grogan went on to appear in several films and TV shows, including 'Comfort and Joy' (1984) and 'Blott on the Landscape' (1985). In the sitcom 'Red Dwarf', she portrayed Kristine Kochanski in the first, second, and sixth episodes. As a singer, Grogan continued her career with 'Altered Images' and later attempted a solo career. Although her solo efforts were not very successful, she continued to tour and perform with 'Altered Images', including appearances in the 'Here and Now Tour' in 2002, 2005, 2008, and 2009.

She is married to former 'Altered Images' band member Stephen Lironi since 1994. Grogan is a self-described food lover and enjoys cooking from scratch. She also talked about her struggles with healthy eating and her love for Spanish food and fresh fish. In 2005, Grogan and Lironi adopted a daughter named Ellie. Despite facing challenges with infertility, Grogan found hope and happiness through adoption. The family currently resides in Haringey.
