Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, a former German professional tennis player, was born on March 11, 1963. She started playing tennis at the tender age of five and turned professional on January 1, 1980.

Professional Success in Singles and Doubles

In 1981, Kohde-Kilsch made a name for herself in singles, winning tournaments in Toronto, Gstaad, and Kitzbühel. She also defeated tennis legend Martina Navratilova in the first round of the Oakland tournament. Kohde-Kilsch teamed up with Eva Pfaff in 1982, and they reached their first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open.

Her success continued in doubles, where she partnered with Helena Suková from 1984 to 1988. Together, they were known as the "Twin Towers" for their height. They won 14 doubles tournaments, including two Grand Slams: the US Open in 1985 and Wimbledon in 1987.

Kohde-Kilsch reached the peak of her singles career in 1985, reaching the semifinals of the US Open and Australian Open and rising to number four in the world rankings. She also won the US Open doubles title with Suková.

In 1987, she won her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, again partnering with Suková. She also won the Wimbledon Ladies' Doubles Championship with Jana Novotná and the Federation Cup with Steffi Graf for West Germany.

An injury forced her to sit out the entire 1993 season. She briefly returned to the court in 1994, but her last WTA tournament was in April 1994. In 1996, she made a brief comeback with her younger sister Kathrin, winning an ITF tournament in Portugal.
