Claudio Vieira de Oliveira was born in Monte Santo, Brazil. From the moment of his birth, doctors warned his parents that he had a severe condition. His legs and arms were deformed, but the most striking deformity was his head, which lay upside down on his back. Diagnosed with congenital arthrogryposis, it seemed that Claudio's chances of survival were slim, and doctors advised his mother, Maria Jose, not to feed him as they believed he would not survive.
