General-Lieutenant Kliment Boyadjiev

Early Life and Education

Kliment Boyadjiev was born in Ohrid, Bulgaria in 1861. In 1883, he graduated from the Military School in Sofia. He later pursued further studies at the Military Academy in Turin, graduating in 1893.

Military Career

Service in the Bulgarian Army

Boyadjiev served in various infantry units within the Bulgarian army. He participated in the Serbo-Bulgarian War and the First Balkan War, commanding the 4th Infantry Division and leading successful operations against Turkish forces. He particularly distinguished himself at the Battle of Çatalca.

Commanding Officer

During the Second Balkan War, Boyadjiev commanded a maneuver group. In 1913, he was appointed Minister of War of Bulgaria. In 1915, he was promoted to Chief of the General Staff.

World War I

Upon Bulgaria's entry into World War I, Boyadjiev became commander of the 1st Army. He played a pivotal role in the 1915 campaign to defeat Serbia. In 1916, under Boyadjiev's leadership, Bulgarian forces actively engaged in combat on the Salonika Front. In September 1916, he was dismissed from command.

Retirement and Death

After the war, Boyadjiev retired to Sofia, where he died in 1932.
