Early Career and Santos Legacy

Clodoaldo's professional journey began with Santos FC in 1966. Slotted into the vital role of defensive midfielder, his versatility and prowess both offensively and defensively proved invaluable. He became a key member of the legendary Santos team alongside Pele, Carlos Alberto Torres, and Pepe Macia. During his tenure, Santos dominated the Sao Paulo Paulista League, winning three consecutive titles from 1967 to 1969.

International Triumph and World Cup Glory

Clodoaldo's star rose further in 1968, as he played a pivotal role in Santos' victory in the Intercontinental Supercup and the Roberto Cup. His debut for the Brazilian national team came a year later, donning the iconic number 5 jersey. Clodoaldo's performance in the 1970 FIFA World Cup was instrumental, starting in all six matches. His goal against Uruguay in the semi-final ignited the Brazilian comeback. Ultimately, Brazil emerged victorious, solidifying Clodoaldo's legacy as one of the tournament's standout players.

Post-World Cup Career and Injury Setback

In 1979, after 14 seasons with Santos, Clodoaldo departed for the North American Soccer League's Tampa Bay Rowdies. He spent his final season playing for Nacional-AM in the Amazonian state championships.

Retirement and Coaching Endeavor

Clodoaldo retired from professional football in 1981 at the age of 32. He briefly returned to Santos as a player-manager in 1979 and as a manager in 1982, but both tenures were unsuccessful.
