Early Career and Professional Beginnings

Colin Hendry's football journey commenced at local clubs Keith and Islavale, where he primarily played as a forward. In 1983, he embarked on his professional career with Dundee.

Transition to Blackburn Rovers

In 1987, Hendry joined Blackburn Rovers, where he was converted into a defender. However, his striking instincts remained intact, as evidenced by his decisive goal against Charlton Athletic. During his two-year tenure at Blackburn, he amassed over 100 appearances.

Manchester City and Blackburn Return

In 1989, Hendry moved to Manchester City, where he maintained his high level of play, earning the title of Player of the Year in 1989-90. Despite his success, he faced managerial changes that led to his departure. He returned to Blackburn in November 1991 and contributed significantly to the club's successful Premier League campaign.

Later Club Career and Retirement

In 1998, Hendry returned to Scotland, joining Rangers under Dick Advocaat. However, his stay was short-lived due to differences in playing style. He then joined Boston United in September 2006 and Clyde in June 2007. However, his tenure at Clyde was cut short in January 2008 due to the deteriorating health of his wife, Denise. She had suffered for seven years from complications arising from a botched liposuction procedure and passed away in July 2009. Hendry's financial troubles gained attention in June 2010 when he was declared bankrupt, with debts amounting to nearly £1 million in unpaid taxes and other liabilities. Reports suggest that his passion for gambling contributed to his financial downfall.
