Biography of Columba Bush

Columba Bush, the wife of the Governor of Florida and daughter-in-law of the 43rd President of the United States, George Bush, was born on August 17, 1953, in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Her father, Jose Garnica Gallo, worked for the immigration service, while her mother, Josefina, was a homemaker. Columba spent her childhood and youth in her hometown, where she completed her primary and secondary education. It was there that she met her future husband, Jeb Bush, who was working in Leon as part of a program to study English in Mexico. Jeb, the son of George H.W. Bush and brother of George W. Bush, both of whom would later become U.S. presidents. Columba and Jeb met in 1971 and got married on February 23, 1974, in Austin, Texas.

She worked in the program "Arts for a Complete Education/Florida Alliance for Arts Education," which aimed to improve the teaching of the arts in schools in the state of Florida and across the United States. Controversies and Resignation

Unfortunately, there have been some controversial moments in Columba Bush's biography. In 1999, she was detained by customs at the international airport in Atlanta for attempting to smuggle undeclared goods worth $19,000 from France. Although the "illegal" goods consisted of women's clothing and jewelry, she was fined $4,000. The next day, Columba publicly apologized and jokingly explained that she committed this act to hide the amount of money spent on clothes from her husband. In 2007, Jeb Bush resigned from his position as governor of Florida, and at that moment, Columba Bush ceased to be the First Lady of Florida.
