Long-Lost Mother and Daughter Reunite After 69 Years
Reunited with Mother After Six Decades88-year-old Connie Maultrup was reunited with her mother after 69 years of separation. Her mother, Genevieve Purinton, had believed that Connie had died at birth. For years, Maultrup had harbored a lifelong desire to meet her biological mother.
A DNA Gift and a Lifetime's Wish
In 2017, Maultrup received a DNA testing kit from Ancestry.com as a Christmas present. The results revealed a long list of relatives, including a daughter, grandchildren, and 1600 other kin. Through a distant cousin, Maultrup learned that her mother, Genevieve Purinton, was still alive.
An Unexpected Phone Call
Maultrup received a life-changing phone call on September 8, 2018. Purinton, now 88 years old, had searched for years for her daughter. The two women arranged to meet at a retirement home in Tampa, Florida.
An Emotional Reunion
The reunion was highly emotional. "I met my mom and cousin, and we just bawled," Maultrup said. "We sobbed our eyes out." Maultrup expressed gratitude for the DNA test that had led to this extraordinary moment.
Expanding Family Connections
The reunion did not end with Purinton and Maultrup. Maultrup discovered she had two half-sisters on her father's side. Plans were made for them to meet the following January.
Surpassing Expectations
"We used to know nothing about our family," Maultrup's daughter, Bonnie Chase, said. "There were just the three of us. Now, Ancestry has connected us with over 4000 relatives." Maultrup's long-held wish for a connected family had finally been fulfilled.
