Count of Luxembourg
Conrad I, the son of Giselbert, ascended to the throne of Luxembourg in 1059 upon his father's passing. His reign was marked by a dispute with the Archbishop of Trier, who demanded the separation of the Abbey of Saint-Maximin. Conrad's resolute refusal provoked the Archbishop to excommunicate the count. In response, Conrad I embarked on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and died during his return journey to Italy on August 8, 1086.
Monastic Foundations
During his rule, Conrad I founded two significant abbeys: the Abbey of Orval and the Abbey of Munster in Luxembourg. He was buried in the latter abbey in 1090.
Marriage and Children
There is some uncertainty regarding the identity and origin of Conrad I's wife. Some sources suggest the presence of two wives. According to the chronicle of Alberic of Trois-Fontaines, Conrad I's spouse was Ermesinde, Countess of Longwy. However, monastic records indicate that his wife was named Clementia. The prevailing hypothesis maintains that Clementia of Aquitaine, Countess of Longwy and daughter of Duke William VII of Aquitaine, was his wife and the mother of all his children:

- Henry: Count of Luxembourg (1086-1096)- Rudolf: Abbot of the Saint-Vanne Monastery in Verdun (1075-1099)
- Conrad: Died after 1090
- Adalbero: Archdeacon of Metz Cathedral, killed in 1098
- Ermesinde: Inherited Longwy and Luxembourg after the death of her nephew, Conrad II
