Lori and George Schappell, also known as Lori and Dori Schappell, were born in 1961 in Reading, Pennsylvania. The twins were joined at the head, making their condition one of the most unusual and challenging. Early Life and Challenges

Their parents were unable to provide care for them, and as a result, they spent their first 20 years in special institutions. They were labeled as intellectually disabled, a diagnosis they later fought to overcome in court.
Pursuit of Education
Once the label of intellectual disability was lifted, the sisters pursued higher education. Lori, who is physically healthy apart from the conjoined head, and George, formerly known as Dori, faced additional challenges. George had a spinal defect that affected her mobility, but with the help of adaptive equipment like a customized high chair, they both remained mobile and independent.
George's Musical Career
In 2007, George underwent a gender transition, embracing his identity as a man. He is now known as George Schappell and has become a well-known country music performer. George, often accompanied by Lori, has toured in Germany, Japan, and many cities throughout the United States. He received the "L.A. Music Award" for "Best New Artist" in 1997.
Personal Life and Present Day
George joined the Baptist church in 2006, and while Lori did not, she supported his decision. Today, Lori and George, both 51 years old, live independently in a small apartment. They work, pay taxes, and actively participate in their community. Despite their unique circumstances, they value their personal space and have cultivated close friendships over the years.
