Early Life and EducationPiet Kee was a renowned Dutch organist and composer born in Amsterdam. He received his musical training from esteemed mentors: Jan Zwart and Jean-Baptiste de Pau for organ, Sem Dresden for composition, and Tom Denijs for vocals.
Illustrious Career as an Organist
From 1923 to 1972, Kee served as the titular organist at Lutheran churches in Zaandam and Amsterdam, a testament to his exceptional organ playing skills.
Impactful Teaching and Improvisation
Kee was also a dedicated educator, teaching the art of improvisation at the Summer School for Organists in Haarlem from 1957 onwards. Additionally, he taught organ at the Utrecht Conservatory from 1958 to 1965, inspiring countless aspiring musicians.
Composing and Publications
Kee composed numerous musical works, including several collections of psalms published in 1939, 1944, and 1948. His magnum opus, the "Credo" collection (1978), featured 50 psalms.
Musical Legacy
According to his son, Piet Kee's musical compositions showcased his deep understanding of the traditions established by Alexandre Guilmant and Charles-Marie Widor. Kee's works have left an enduring legacy in the Dutch organ and choral repertoire.
