Biography of Cybill Shepherd

Cybill Shepherd is an American actress, singer, and model. She gained fame as the winner of the "Miss Memphis" beauty pageant and later worked as a fashion model in New York City. It was her striking looks and talent that caught the attention of director Peter Bogdanovich, leading to her role as the "school beauty" in his film "The Last Picture Show" (1971). However, their romantic and creative partnership was cut short due to the failure of films like "Daisy Miller" (1974) and "At Long Last Love" (1975).

In the 1970s, Shepherd delivered her best performance in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver" (1976). She excelled at portraying ordinary young American women, staying within the confines of their everyday lives and social circles. Her characters were charming, rational, practical, and fiercely independent. This independence was further exemplified by Shepherd's decision to take a break from film in the 1980s but make a successful comeback in the television series "Moonlighting" (1984-1989).

Shepherd returned to the big screen with the film "Texasville" (1990), which reunited the characters from "The Last Picture Show" two decades later. She also appeared in films such as "Alice," "Married to It," and the TV movie "Memphis" (1992), where she served as an executive producer and co-writer alongside L. McMurtry, the author of "The Last Picture Show." Since 1995, she has hosted the self-parodying TV show "Cybill."

Aside from her acting career, Shepherd is also a talented singer, model, producer, and author. She wrote a book titled "Cybill Disobedience."
