International Debut and Olympic Gold

Kosuke Hagino emerged as a force in international swimming at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona. The Japanese swimmer won the gold medal in the men's 400-meter individual medley.

World Record and Championship Success

In December 2018, Hagino set a new world record in the 25-meter butterfly at the World Short Course Championships in Hangzhou. His time of 1:48.24 broke the previous mark. At the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, Hagino earned a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly and a world championship title in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 1:56.14. He capped off the competition with a victory in the 400-meter individual medley, edging out his closest competitor by just 0.27 seconds.
