Biography of Dale Thomas Mortensen
Dale Thomas Mortensen, an American economist, was born in Enterprise, Oregon. He obtained his bachelor's degree in economics from Willamette University and later pursued his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University.
Academic Career
Since 1965, Mortensen has been working at Northwestern University. In 1980, he was appointed as a professor of managerial economics and decision sciences at the Kellogg School of Management. From 2006 to 2010, he served as a visiting professor at the School of Economics and Management at Aarhus University.
Mortensen's research primarily focuses on labor markets, macroeconomics, and economic theory. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on the theory of matching in relation to frictional unemployment. His interests also include labor mobility, resource allocation, research and development, and the impact of interpersonal relationships on these processes.
Achievements
Mortensen's most notable achievement is receiving the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. He shared this prestigious award with Christopher A. Pissarides from the London School of Economics and Peter A. Diamond from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Their research on search models in markets was recognized by the Nobel Committee.
In addition to the Nobel Prize, Mortensen has received several other honors. In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Willamette University. In recognition of his contributions to economics, a new building at Aarhus University was named after Dale Mortensen. The Dale T. Dale Mortensen is married to Beverly Mortensen, who is also a professor at Northwestern University.
