Early Life and Education

Mara Carfagna was born in Salerno, Italy, and raised in Calabria. She pursued a law degree at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria.

Journalism Career

Before entering politics, Carfagna worked as a journalist for regional newspapers in Calabria.

Political Journey

Election to Parliament

In 2013, Carfagna became a member of the Five Star Movement and ran for election to the Italian Chamber of Deputies. She was elected on March 19, 2013, representing the XXIII electoral district of Calabria.

Legislative Roles

Carfagna served as Deputy Chairperson of the XIV Commission (for the European Union) in the Chamber of Deputies from 2015 to 2016. Since 2016, she has been a member of the XII Commission (for Social Affairs).
