Biography of Damian Marley

Damian Marley, a Jamaican musician and reggae artist, is the youngest son of Bob Marley and Cindy Breakspeare, the winner of the Miss World 1976 pageant. He earned the nickname "Junior Gong" from his father's nickname, "Tuff Gong." Damian has been performing since the age of 13 and, like most of his family, has dedicated himself entirely to music.

Damian has released five albums to date. His debut album, "Mr. Marley," was released in 1996, followed by "Halfway Tree" in 2001. In 2005, he released "Welcome to Jamrock," which earned him three Grammy Awards, including Best Reggae Album. In 2010, he collaborated with Nas to release the album "Distant Relatives." His most recent album, "Stony Hill," won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2017.

Aside from his solo work, Damian has collaborated with various artists in different genres. In 2004, he participated in the Bob Marley Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival Tour alongside his brothers Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, and Ky-Mani, all of whom have successful solo careers. Damian frequently performs with Julian and Stephen as members of the Ghetto Youths Crew. He has also worked with hip-hop group Cypress Hill, recording the song "Ganja Bus," and collaborated with Snoop Dogg on the track "Get a Light." Additionally, he has remixed songs for artists such as Gwen Stefani and Mariah Carey.

In 2010, Damian released the collaborative album "Distant Relatives" with Nas and became a member of the rock group SuperHeavy, formed by Mick Jagger in 2011. He has also collaborated with Skrillex on the track "Make It Bun Dem," featured in the video game Far Cry 3.

Damian Marley comes from a musically gifted family. His father, Bob Marley, was a renowned musician, songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist. His brothers Ziggy, Stephen, and Ky-Mani are also successful musicians. Damian has English and Jewish roots, adding to the diversity of his background.
