Early Life and Education

Dan Levy was born in Toronto, Ontario, to actor Eugene Levy and Deborah Divine. He has a younger sister, Sarah (born 1986). Levy's father is Jewish, while his mother is Protestant. He attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute for high school and later studied film production at York University and Ryerson University.

Coming to Prominence

Levy initially gained recognition as the host of the after-show for the reality program "The Hills." In 2009, he made an appearance in the TV film "Degrassi Goes Hollywood," a continuation of the series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." Levy went on to have supporting roles in films such as "Offline," "Admission," and "Stage Fright."

The Success of "Schitt's Creek"

In 2015, Levy co-created the sitcom "Schitt's Creek" with his father, Eugene. The show received critical acclaim and garnered numerous awards and nominations. In 2020, for his work on the show's final season, Levy was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Writing, Directing, and Supporting Actor.

Levy has made a guest appearance in the tenth season of "Modern Family" in 2018.

Personal Life

Levy divides his time between Toronto and Los Angeles but considers London his favorite city after spending time there in 2005. He shares his home with his dog, Redmond. Levy initially avoided publicly discussing his sexual orientation but was referred to as "a member of the LGBTQ community" in a 2015 Flare interview. In a 2020 interview with Andy Cohen, Levy stated that he has been open about being gay since he was 18.
