Daniel Resin: A Versatile Actor with a Broadway and Hollywood Legacy
Early Life and EducationDaniel Resin was born on February 22, 1931, in South Bend, Indiana. His parents divorced when he was three years old. He met his future wife, Margaret Gacke, in the seventh grade and married her in 1954. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in music and theater from Indiana University, Resin served in the army. He later completed graduate school at Columbia University in New York City.
Theatrical Career
Resin's Broadway debut came in the 1956 musical "My Fair Lady," where he played Freddie Eynsford-Hill. He also originated the role of Sir Harry in the off-Broadway production of "Once Upon a Mattress" and later reprised the role on Broadway. Other notable Broadway credits include "Don't Drink the Water," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," and "Young Abe Lincoln."
Film and Television Appearances
Resin made his film debut in the 1975 comedy "The Sunshine Boys." He went on to appear in several films, including "Caddyshack" (1980), "The Happy Hooker" (1975), "The Private Files of J. Edgar Hoover" (1977), "Wise Guys" (1986), and "The Man With One Red Shoe" (1985). In 1975, he played a young Richard Nixon in the satirical film "Richard."
On television, Resin appeared in sitcoms such as "On Our Own" and soap operas including "Edge of Night," "Lovers and Friends," and "Till We Meet Again." He also made guest appearances on "Captain Kangaroo" and "Madhouse Brigade." Additionally, Resin became well-known for his role as the dapper skipper in the "Ty-D-Bol" toilet bowl cleaner commercials, appearing in numerous short films for the brand throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Personal Life
Resin and his wife, Margaret, raised three daughters. They lived in Union City, New Jersey, before moving to Weehawken and eventually settling in Secaucus, where they spent over 47 years together. Resin was an avid boater and a Eucharistic minister at Immaculate Conception Church.
Death and Legacy
Daniel Resin passed away on July 31, 2010, at the age of 79, from complications of Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, three daughters, and five grandchildren. Resin's versatile career as an actor left a lasting impression on Broadway, Hollywood, and audiences around the world.
