Early Life and Career

Dan Vapid is an American punk rock musician known for his involvement in several bands, including Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales, and The Methadones. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Vapid began his musical journey in the mid-1980s with the hardcore punk band Generation Waste. After four years, the band released an unreleased album before disbanding.

Dan Vapid

Screeching Weasel

In 1989, Vapid joined Screeching Weasel as a bassist. However, he often took on guitar duties and adopted the stage name "Dan Vapid." Before leaving Screeching Weasel, he also briefly performed under the pseudonym "Sewercap." In 1992, Vapid left the band to pursue other projects, including Sludgeworth.

Sludgeworth

Formed in 1989, Sludgeworth featured Vapid and Brian Vermin from Screeching Weasel alongside guitarists Adam White and Dave McClean, and bassist Mike Hootenstrat. The band disbanded in 1992, soon after Vapid's return to Screeching Weasel.

The Riverdales

In 1994, Vapid, Ben Foster, and Dan Sullivan formed The Riverdales. Despite being the official bassist, Vapid often sang lead vocals. The band released their debut album in 1995 and a second album in 1997. The Riverdales disbanded after Screeching Weasel reunited, but they reformed in 2003. They released a third album and eventually reunited again in 2008, releasing two more albums before disbanding once more in 2011.

Other Projects

Throughout his career, Vapid has been involved in numerous other projects, including Queer, The Mopes, and The Methadones. He played guitar for Queer on three albums, and The Mopes featured him on bass and vocals. The Methadones, formed in 1993, initially went on hiatus but was revived in 1999. After releasing an album with The Mopes lineup, Vapid recruited a new Chicago-based band. The Methadones disbanded in 2010.

Recent Years

Currently, Vapid is active with two projects: Noise By Numbers and Dan Vapid and the Cheats. A second album by Noise By Numbers was scheduled for release in the summer of 2011, while an album by Dan Vapid and the Cheats was set for release in October of the same year.
