Biography of Dana Carvey
Dana Carvey is a highly popular American actor and comedian, best known for his role in the show "Saturday Night Live" and his portrayal of Garth in the musical comedy "Wayne's World."
Early Life and Education
Dana Carvey was born in Missoula, Montana, to Billie and William Carvey, who were both teachers. He has a brother named Brad Carvey, who later became known as an engineer-designer for "Video Toaster." When Dana was three years old, his family moved to San Carlos, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he attended Tierra Linda Junior High School. He later studied at Carlmont High School in Belmont, California, and earned his bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University.
Acting Career
Dana Carvey made his film debut in 1981 in the thriller "Halloween II." In 1982, he appeared in "One of the Boys," followed by a small role in the musical comedy "This Is Spinal Tap" in 1984. That same year, he also had a small role in the dramatic comedy "Racing with the Moon." A few years later, he landed a more significant role in the comedy "Tough Guys."
In 1986, Carvey joined the popular NBC show "Saturday Night Live," which solidified his success as a comedic actor. He continued to act in various comedy films, including "Moving" in 1988 and "Opportunity Knocks" in the following years. One of his most iconic roles came in 1992 when he played Garth in the musical comedy "Wayne's World." He reprised this role in the sequel, "Wayne's World 2," the following year.
In 2002, Carvey portrayed another leading character in the family comedy "The Master of Disguise." The film tells the story of a funny waiter who constantly changes his appearance to mimic restaurant patrons, using his unique ability to fight criminals.
Carvey's recent works include the comedy "Jack and Jill" in 2011, and he continues to participate in television series both in acting and voice-over roles. Overall, his filmography consists of around thirty films, with the majority being comedies.
Personal Life
In 1979, Dana Carvey met Paula Zwaggerman, whom he later married. They have two sons together, Dex (born in 1991) and Thomas (born in 1993). In 1997, Carvey underwent heart surgery, which was not initially successful. He later received a settlement of $7.5 million in a lawsuit against negligent doctors. In an interview with Larry King, Carvey mentioned that he donated all the money to charity.
