In 2008, shortly after Obama's inauguration, Cowart, along with his accomplice Paul Schlesselman from Arkansas, devised a meticulously planned plot to kill the president. Cowart, the ideological leader of the duo, envisioned creating chaos and sparking racial tension by targeting African American schools. Ultimately, the final target of their hate-fueled rampage was Barack Obama himself, whom they planned to assassinate while he was in a moving vehicle, dressed in white tuxedos and top hats.

On October 22, 2008, Cowart and Schlesselman were apprehended thanks to a tip provided by a mutual acquaintance. During the investigation, authorities discovered evidence of Cowart's deep-seated fanaticism. His computer contained photographs linking him to the Satanic Church, and his personal correspondence revealed sadistic tendencies. Furthermore, it was revealed that Cowart had called the police in 2005 to falsely report a bomb threat at his school.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

During their trial, Cowart and Schlesselman expressed remorse for their actions and publicly apologized to President Obama and the African American community.
