Biography of Daniel Vaillant

Daniel Vaillant, born in the small town of Lorm in the department of Nièvre in central France, is a French politician and the Minister of the Interior of France. He was born into a family of a mechanic at the Renault plant and a modest office worker. Vaillant studied biotechnology but worked in the field for a short period of time as his true passion was always politics.

At the age of 17, Vaillant joined the convent of republican institutions, the precursor to the modern French Socialist Party, which was formed in 1971. By 1972, he was already leading the party organization in the 18th district of Paris, bordering the working-class suburb of Saint-Denis. Since then, his life has been closely associated with the Socialist Party and its leader, François Mitterrand.

In the early 1980s, Vaillant served as an assistant to Mitterrand, who was a deputy in the National Assembly representing Paris. In 1988, Vaillant himself became a deputy. His loyalty did not go unnoticed, and in 1997, when Mitterrand was forming his government, he appointed Vaillant as the Minister for Relations with Parliament. The following year, Vaillant's responsibilities were expanded to include being the official representative of the government.

Currently, Vaillant balances his position as the Minister of the Interior with his elected position as the mayor. He is married and has three children. In his free time, he enjoys visiting the flea market near Montmartre, where he lives and serves as the mayor.
