Early Life
Danny Jordaan was born to Maxine and Alexander Jordaan. He joined the anti-apartheid and black consciousness South African Students' Organisation founded by Steve Biko. Later, he became a member of the United Democratic Front and the African National Congress.
Education and Sports Career
Jordaan taught for several years. From 1970 to 1983, he played football and cricket for provincial teams. He also played professionally in football.
Football Administration
From 1983 to 1992, Jordaan held various administrative positions in South African football. In 1993, he became the Director of the Cape Town Olympic Bid Committee.
In 1997, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the South African Football Association (SAFA). He led SAFA's successful bid for the 2010 World Cup, the first to be held in Africa.
FIFA Involvement
Jordaan has worked extensively for FIFA as a General Coordinator for various tournaments, including the FIFA World Youth Championships, the 2001 Confederations Cup, and the 2002 World Cup. He also served as a special delegate and organizing committee member for the 2006 World Cup and the 2009 Confederations Cup.
Political Career
In 1990, Jordaan became the chairperson of the Port Elizabeth North branch of the ANC. In 1994, he became a Member of Parliament of South Africa, serving until 1997.
