Dante Exum is an Australian professional basketball player currently playing for the Houston Rockets in the NBA.
Early Career and Youth Teams
As a young basketball player, Dante competed for Australia in the FIBA Under-17 World Championship in 2012 and the Under-19 World Championship in 2013. During the 2013 tournament, he averaged 18.2 points and 3.8 assists. Exum's exceptional skills earned him an invitation to the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit representing the World Select Team, where he recorded 16 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
NBA Draft and Rookie Season
On January 24, 2014, Exum declared for the NBA draft and was subsequently selected by the Utah Jazz with the 5th overall pick. He inked a $3.9 million contract with the Jazz on July 12, 2014.
Exum made his NBA debut on October 29, 2014, against the Houston Rockets. He recorded 5 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Three days later, he scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range against the Phoenix Suns. On January 2, 2015, Exum set his career high with 13 points against the Atlanta Hawks.
Later Career and Trade to Houston
After playing for the Jazz for several seasons, Exum was traded to the Houston Rockets on January 14, 2021, as part of a three-team deal involving James Harden's move to the Brooklyn Nets.
Personal Life
Dante Exum's father, Cecil D. Exum, was a basketball player at the University of North Carolina alongside Michael Jordan.
