Biography of Dario Mollo
Dario Mollo is an Italian rock guitarist who began his musical career in 1981 as a member of the band Crossbones. The band gained experience in their hometown of Ventimiglia and reached the peak of their development in the genre of Italian rock. They had the opportunity to contribute to the compilation album "Metallo Italia," released a music video, and made several appearances on national television channels.
Collaboration with Kit Woolven
In 1986, Dario Mollo met renowned producer Kit Woolven, known for his work with Thin Lizzy, Cradle of Filth, and UFO. Together, they recorded a song for another compilation album called "Italian Rock Invasion," which marked the beginning of a friendship. This friendship eventually led to their most recent collaboration, known as The Cage.
The Cage and Crossbones
After undergoing multiple lineup changes, Crossbones recorded an album with Don Airey, from Rainbow and Ozzy Osbourne, as the keyboardist. The band embarked on a European tour before the Crossbones project was put on hold. Dario dedicated his time to honing his technique and style and building his own recording studio, which has since been utilized by many notable bands such as Anathema and Giuntini.
The Birth of The Cage and Voodoo Hill
During this period, Dario wrote a collection of new songs, laying the foundation for a new project. Utilizing his previous experience, countless hours of studio time, and excellent equipment, he reunited with Don Airey and several other friends to record an album, which would become The Cage. In need of a vocalist, Dario introduced former Black Sabbath singer Tony Martin to the project. Tony Martin wrote lyrics and melodies for the amazing songs that Dario had already assembled, giving birth to The Cage. The album gained immense popularity among fans and critics, establishing Dario's reputation in the international market.
Additionally, Dario began writing and recording new material for a parallel project called Voodoo Hill. He enlisted Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple as the lead vocalist, along with Roberto Gualdi on drums, Max Matis on bass, and Patti on keyboards. Voodoo Hill immediately caught the attention of Italian record label Frontiers Records, which signed Dario to a multi-album contract. The project received a tremendous response in the international market and was released in Japan by Marquee/Avalon.
Continued Work and Success
In 2001, Dario decided to return to The Cage project with Tony Martin, writing and recording new songs in his newly established recording studio. However, he temporarily interrupted his work from July to November because his friends Don Airey and Graham Bonnet invited him to perform and play for British audiences during a tour where the band performed songs from the Rainbow album "Down To Earth." The new album, titled "Mollo/Martin The Cage - II," was finally completed in December 2001, featuring an incredible lineup consisting of Tony Franklin on bass, Roberto Gualdi on drums, and Dario Patti on keyboards.
