Biography of Darren Hanlon
Darren Hanlon is an Australian singer-songwriter specializing in urban folk. He has released five solo albums, three EPs, eight singles, and several compilation albums. He initially worked under the label 'Candle Records' and later established his own label, 'Flippin Yeah Industries', in 2008.
Early Life and Musical Influences
Darren Hanlon was born and raised in Gympie, Queensland, a town that was once saved by the discovery of gold. Despite this connection to his hometown, Hanlon pursued a career in urban folk music, which gained him recognition throughout Queensland and Australia.
Hanlon's parents played music by Kenny Rodgers and Slim Dustys, which introduced him to music at a young age. However, it was a lucky coincidence that his music teacher lived on the same street as him. The teacher had an impressive collection of music that opened the doors to a new world for Hanlon.
Early Career
After finishing school, Hanlon left Queensland and attended a music college in Lismore. It was here that he began applying his acquired skills as a member of the local band 'Playgrounds'. Although his time as a guitarist in the band was short-lived due to his "excessive country" style, Hanlon later rejoined the band, which had been renamed 'The Simpletons'. With 'The Simpletons', Hanlon embarked on his first Australian tour, showcasing his own songs alongside his performance skills.
As a solo artist, Hanlon began promoting himself gradually after playing in several different bands. In 2002, he started collaborating with percussionist Bree van Reyk, and in 2004, they traveled to Arizona to record a new collection of songs. Their first collaborative album was quite successful, leading them to embark on a tour around Australia.

Hanlon's songs have served as the basis for eight music videos. Some of the notable tracks include "Happiness is a Chemical," "Hiccups," "A to Z," "Elbows," "The Unmade Bed," "Fingertips & Mountaintops," "All These Things," "Electric Skeleton," and "Butterfly Bones." He collaborated with Bob Ellis, Rhys Muldoon, and Jessica Tovey in creating his most recent music video.
Beyond his musical talents, Hanlon is known for his engaging stage presence and storytelling abilities. He actively interacts with his audience, exuding a captivating charm. Hanlon has toured extensively, both as a solo artist and alongside other performers, including Billy Bragg, David Dondero, Tim Kasher, Violent Femmes, and The Magnetic Fields.

A few years ago, Hanlon completed his latest album, "I Will Love You At All." The album was released in Australia on July 16, 2010, and in the United States on September 21, 2010, through the label 'Yep Roc'.
