Biography of Sainkho Namchylak

Sainkho Namchylak is a Tuvan singer who has been residing in Austria for many years. Born to parents who were teachers and descended from nomads, she developed a passion for folk songs and traditional throat singing (hoomei) from her grandmother during her childhood.

In 1975, she began her music education in Kyzyl, which continued in Moscow from 1981 and concluded at the Gnesin School of Music in 1988. Even during her studies, she participated in various musical projects and embarked on concert tours around the world.

Since the early 1990s, Sainkho Namchylak has been blending Tuvan ethnic music and throat singing with Western genres such as avant-garde, modern, jazz, and pop. She has recorded a series of solo albums in diverse styles.
