Daria Bilodid: A Rising Star in Judo
Early Life and FamilyDaria Bilodid is an accomplished Ukrainian judoka who was born on October 10, 2000, in a family deeply rooted in the sport. Her father, Gennadiy Bilodid, is a renowned judoka, while her mother, Svetlana Kuznetsova, also pursued the sport.
Early Successes
Bilodid's talent became evident early on. In 2015, she triumphed at the Ukrainian National Championships in her age category. Her success continued with victories at the European and World Championships at the U18 level.
International Breakthrough
Bilodid made her mark on the international stage in 2017. She secured a gold medal at the Continental Cup in Prague. Shortly after, she stunned the world by becoming the European champion in the 48-kilogram weight class at the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw.
World Championship Champion
Bilodid's rise continued at the 2018 World Championships. She showcased her prowess by defeating notable opponents, including the reigning world champion Funa Tanaka of Japan. At just 17 years of age, she became the youngest world champion in judo history, surpassing both men and women.
Pre-Olympic Success
In 2019, Bilodid added another accolade to her collection by winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo. She once again emerged victorious over Tanaka in the final.
Personal Life
Bilodid resides in Kyiv, Ukraine. She was briefly in a relationship with Italian Olympic judo champion Fabio Basile, but they separated in April 2019.
