Early Life and Education
Born Daria Dmitrievna in Minsk, Belarus, on February 19, 1991, Dasha Nekrasova is the daughter of circus acrobats. Shortly after her birth, Belarus declared independence, and when she was three, her family relocated permanently to the United States.
After graduating from a high school at the Academy of Art, Las Vegas, Nekrasova enrolled at Mills College at Northeastern University in Oakland, California, where she studied philosophy and sociology.
Acting and Filmmaking Career
Nekrasova made her on-screen debut in music videos for alternative musicians. Her filmmaking career began in 2018 with her co-written screenplay and starring role in the dramedy "The Shaky Palace." She also played a central role in the black comedy "The Softness of Bodies."
Podcasting and Modeling
In 2018, Nekrasova and Anna Khachiyan co-launched the podcast "Red Scare," which blends conversations about politics and culture with elements of philosophy, economics, and internet memes. In 2019, the duo modeled in designer Rachel Comey's couture collection at the Marlborough Gallery in Manhattan.
Directing Debut and Critical Acclaim
In 2021, Nekrasova made her directorial debut with the mystical thriller "The Fear Street Trilogy: 1966." The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it earned her the Best Debut Feature Award. She also starred in the film.
Television Roles and Recent Filmography
In addition to her film work, Nekrasova has appeared in television series such as "The Serpent," "Mr. Robot," and "Succession." In 2023, she starred in the sci-fi thriller "Premonition," which premiered in Russia in 2024. She also had a role in Bertrand Bonello's "The Loneliest Girl," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
Personal Life
Nekrasova identifies as a Catholic but has criticized Pope Francis. Despite her left-leaning political views, she has expressed admiration for alt-right commentator Alex Jones. Nekrasova has been in two known relationships: with musician Oneohtrix Point Never and comedian Adam Friedland.
