Early Life and Education

Dave Ramsey was born and raised in Antioch, Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Tennessee's College of Business Administration in Knoxville.

Financial Success and Bankruptcy

Ramsey became a real estate investor and established Ramsey Investments, Inc. By 1986, he had accumulated a rental property portfolio worth over $4 million. However, the bank financing his properties was acquired by a larger bank that demanded immediate payment on the loans. Unable to pay, Ramsey filed for bankruptcy in September 1988.

Financial Recovery and Counseling

After recovering financially, Ramsey began counseling couples at his local church. He attended seminars and workshops on consumer financial issues. He developed lessons and materials based on his own experiences and the work and teachings of Larry Burkett, Ron Blue, and Art Williams of Primerica.

The Dave Ramsey Show

Ramsey's syndicated radio program, The Dave Ramsey Show, airs on over 500 radio stations across the United States and Canada. It is also available as a podcast on iHeartRadio, the Dave Ramsey Show iOS app, livestreamed on YouTube, and livestreamed audio and video on DaveRamsey.com.

Bestselling Books

Ramsey has written numerous books, including five New York Times bestsellers. His books and radio show advocate a financially disciplined approach to personal and household finances, including strict debt management, often with a Christian perspective.

Ramsey was named the 2009 Marconi Award winner for Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year. In 2015, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Ramsey Solutions

In 2014, Ramsey rebranded his company, changing the name from The Lampo Group, Inc. to Ramsey Solutions. Headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, it oversees six divisions focused on financial literacy.

Media Appearances

Ramsey has been featured in numerous media outlets, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, and The Early Show. He filmed a pilot and six unaired episodes for a Dave Ramsey show for CBS. He hosted the television program The Dave Ramsey Show, which aired on Fox Business Network until June 2010.

Personal Life
