Early Life and Career

David Payden Passaro, known professionally as Davey Havok, was born on November 20, 1975, in Rochester, New York. He spent his early years in the care of his Italian-American family, including his mother and stepfather whose surname he adopted, Marchand. After relocating to Ukiah, California, at age eight, Havok attended Catholic schools until eighth grade. He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1993 and briefly pursued English and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. However, his musical career with the rock band AFI took off during his sophomore year, leading him to abandon his studies.

AFI and Music Career

Havok co-founded AFI, an acronym for A Fire Inside, with Mark Stopholese and Vic Chalker during high school, despite none of them knowing how to play any instruments. They recruited Adam Carson as their drummer and released their debut album in 1995. After a brief hiatus during college, AFI reunited in 1996 and released several successful albums, including "Answer That and Stay Fashionable" and "Very Proud of Ya."

The band's breakthrough came with the 2003 album "Sing the Sorrow," solidifying their place in the music industry. Their 2006 album "Decemberunderground" achieved commercial success, selling over two million copies and earning double platinum status. AFI has continued to release albums and tour extensively throughout their career.

Blaqk Audio and Other Projects

In 2007, Havok and AFI guitarist Jade Puget formed the electronic side project Blaqk Audio. They have released three albums under this moniker, including "CexCells" and "Material." Havok has also collaborated with members of Samhain on the album "Songs from the Earth."

In 2014, Havok was revealed to be the vocalist for the hardcore band XTRMST. He later formed the new wave band Dreamcar with No Doubt members Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal, and Adrian Young.

Fashion and Advocacy

Havok has been involved in the fashion industry, partnering with Tarina Tarantino in 2007 and launching his own clothing lines, Paden and Glitterboy. He is also a vegan and straight edge advocate, recognized by PETA as the World's Sexiest Vegetarian three times.

Acting and Writing

Havok made his acting debut in the Broadway musical "American Idiot" in 2011. He has also appeared in the film "Knife Fight" and voiced a character in the animated series "Godkiller." Additionally, he has authored two books: "Pop Kids" and "Love Fast Los Angeles."
