Biography of David Archer

David Archer was a notorious British criminal, known as one of the most prolific shoplifters in the country. From a young age, Archer engaged in a life of crime, starting his thieving activities at just 10 years old. Over the course of his criminal career, he has been convicted of 342 episodes of various offenses, making him a prolific recidivist.

Archer's latest crimes, which led to his 18-month imprisonment, included stealing from a charity shop of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSCPA) in Colwyn Bay. He also stole a donation box from a store in Llandudno and committed two acts of anti-social behavior. These acts further highlighted Archer's disregard for both the law and the victims of his crimes.

Despite his extensive criminal record, Archer sees himself as innocent. In a letter to Judge Rhys Rowlands, he claimed to have previously donated to charity and respected the philanthropic institutions he targeted. His motive for the recent crimes was solely to acquire warm clothing.

However, Judge Rowlands was not convinced by Archer's claims of innocence. The stolen items from his latest crimes included clothing, but Archer also took the opportunity to steal a donation box and even a camera. These actions demonstrated his lack of remorse and disregard for the consequences of his actions.

Archer's criminal activities extended beyond shoplifting. He targeted numerous charitable organizations, causing considerable damage to the British philanthropic community. As a result, he has been banned from entering any charitable shops in the country, and the opportunity to handle donation boxes legally has been revoked.

Judge Rowlands particularly highlighted two aspects that set Archer apart from other criminals. Firstly, Archer's unrepentant nature and his inability to break free from a life of crime despite decades of involvement. At the age of 58, he lacks a permanent home, employment, and a legitimate profession, leaving little hope for him to become a productive member of society.

Secondly, the judge emphasized Archer's deliberate choice to target charitable organizations. Stealing necessities from stores is one thing, but preying on institutions that provide aid to the vulnerable is another level of criminal behavior.

Archer's defense attorney, Andrew McInnes, tried to argue that Archer was trapped in a vicious cycle of alcoholism, theft, and imprisonment, which he was unable to escape. However, Judge Rowlands ultimately ruled that Archer must be held accountable for his crimes and sentenced him to prison once again.
